ATIP/CID

Critical Incident Desensitization Protocol- ATIP/CID

When Something Traumatic Just happened...

Critical Incident Desensitization (CID/CIDP) is a brief crisis-intervention approach designed for use following a recent critical or traumatic incident. Rather than requiring you to repeatedly describe everything that happened, CID techniques use brief periods of bilateral or other distracting stimulation while helping you remain grounded in the present.

The goal is to help reduce the intensity of the immediate distress associated with the experience so that your nervous system can begin moving from crisis toward stabilization.

CID may be helpful following experiences such as:

  • Accidents or medical emergencies

  • Sudden or traumatic loss

  • Assault or violence

  • Natural disasters

  • Frightening workplace incidents

  • First-responder or healthcare-related critical incidents

  • Unexpected traumatic news

  • Other recent overwhelming experiences

What is A-TIP?

A-TIP — Acute Traumatic Incident Processing — is another approach developed by Roy Kiessling for responding to recent traumatic experiences.

A-TIP provides a structured way of addressing the thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and disturbing images that can remain highly activated following an overwhelming event.

The focus is not simply on talking about what happened. Instead, the intervention helps the individual remain grounded while working with the parts of the experience that are creating the greatest disturbance.

"Amy’s training goes beyond any training I have attended. I have seen such a huge difference in my clients since applying her faith-based approach to EMDR. It’s incredible to see my clients truly connect with their Creator and I would have never known how to do it so precisely without this training. Amy seamlessly incorporates Biblical principles while bringing in the love and presence of God into each phase of EMDR. The in-person training was so incredible and I witnessed and experienced the love and presence of God as I applied these techniques through the practicum and was able to watch Amy do it as well. This has been an essential part of my day to day in my private practice with my clients and the results have been amazing! Thank you so much Amy for being so in-tune with God's heart and creating this amazing faith-based training! "
